Just wondered if there was a way to stop the adverts that run at the top of these pages - the one for BT with the noises of the eye ball popping out or being electrocuted or some such is driving me nuts!! Is there anything I can do other than turn my speakers off? I don't want to do that as I don't hear new mail coming in - but I can't cope with this advert much longer! Arrrrrrgggghhhhhh!

Andrea I must be very lucky - just have a blank space where you have that BT advert. When I have a new e-mail, the icon changes to red. Kathleen

Andrea...... Fully agree with you....and what you think of a firm carrying the name " British Tele" ...... showing our National Flag the wrong way round ? ...umm

I have also found the advert to be the most irritating one on the internet. I just turn my sound of whilst the advert is running. I think that it was the first time that I have heard sound with an advert.

Mike - I hadn't even noticed about the flag - too busy gritting my teeth and cursing!! Oh well, I guess I will just have to turn the sound off then. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just the once instead of several times in a row. VERY annoying! Sound has gone. Ahhhhh much better!!

I don't have an advert at the top of the page. This is probably because I have the ad blocker activated on Norton. Ann Glos

I wondered what that noise was on my computer of popping and a whizzing sound, I thought I had a virus.................................Sue.

I only put the sound on when I need it. I have enough distractions, without noise as well

It's the Sky Digital one flashing on the left that's driving me mad. Unfortunately, I suppose we have to accept that these irritating companies who choose to advertise in this fashion are helping to make this site possible by their financial input...

Annoying as they may be, you'd be a lot more annoyed if GC hiked the charges up instead. These wretched things keep the price of membership down.

You can get rid of all these annoying pop-ups if you reset one of Windows defaults (Only in XP) Just go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services Right click on Messenger (this is nothing to do with windows messenger), left click properties. Set startup type to disabled. Click OK

Thanks for all the replies. It does appear to have gone today so maybe GC sorted that when they updated the Home Page again and added the "page" thing at the bottom of the message boards for easier navigation through the boards - great help. Thanks GC!! Someone complained about the Sky Digital advert flashing - I just move my screen so the advert is below my screen and I can't see it!!
