I barked at the postwoman when she delivered them!!! although one is the wrong person, my fault i'm afraid, thought it was when i applied!! and one is dodgy- i'm not sure if it is my man- John Batterbee b 1849- i thought in Burnham thorpe, but this one is on Gayton Norfolk. But.... the rest are fine, so i've got loads of new leads to follow up tonight/whenever!!!! Very excited Julie T:)

Good luck with your searching Julie. Just to put a damper on things though - you do realise that these will lead to needing to purchase more certs and thus plunging you further into debt!! Mind you, if you're like me, you'll be thinking s*d the expense it's all just too exciting! Jeanette:-)

My certs arrived this morning too.... All very exciting! And seem to all be the correct people aswell! So far this morning through these certificates i have been able to go back another generation and also add another 20 people (mainly siblings) to my tree!!!! Cant say how pleased i am! I had previously hit a brick wall! Hope everyone else has lots of luck with theirs too!

It's always a good feeling, no matter how many you've ordered in the past. Just wanted to share a tip with you regarding witnesses on marriage certificates. I've learned whenever I've ordered marriage certs never to discount the marriage witnesses. You may get lucky straightaway if the witnesses are obvious relatives, however if they're not then don't despair. When I ordered the marriage cert for my gt-grandparents, the witnesses were a couple called David and Margaret Hutchinson. Their names meant nothing to me and so I didn't think anything more of them. It wasn't until someone did a 1861 census look-up for me, that I became aware that the bride (Elizabeth Younger) had an elder sister called Margaret. I eventually found a marriage for Margaret Younger and bingo, she had married a guy called David Hutchinson! Was a satisfying moment.
