I believe my great grandfather had a twin,but I cant find any other information on her,if i order a birth cert,would both twins be on the same cert as the info i recieved from someone tracing the same name is that thay are both on the same page.the info I have is Names:Mary & Henry Macbeth 1854 March qtr Vol 10a -354 Also if anyone has a spare credit for 1837 online,I would be most grateful if someone could check this from me Thankyou Anna

No they will not be both mentioned on the one certificate. What you need to do is go through the Gro references, you can either do this at a local register office or on the pay site 1837online(.)com If there are twins they will be in the same quarter. My grandfather was born in 1924, so I searched the gro ref to find his parents. To my shock there in the next column was another child surname Clarke mothers maiden name Littlejohn. I discovered a twin that none of our family knew my Grandfather had, not even him I think. Got the birth certificate of his twin in the post today and it confirms that he definately had a twin. Thanks Siobhan, I was wondering just because the info i got on a printed sheet from someone just had both names and the same page,I dont know if the second twin was stillborn as i cant find her anywhere but can find her twin brother and other siblings

the gro refs 1837online will not give you any more information that what you already know. You will need to order the certificates to confirm it. certificates are approx £7 POUNDS each.

it is a shame they births were a before the date when mother maiden name was mentioned on the references, as then that would help you. It is quite possibly you have triplets there, but the only way to confirm would be to order the 3 birth certificates, which I know can be quite costly and 7 pound each. But you could get one a month. That is usually what I do, if I have lots of certs to order

Thanks Linda, now you mention that being illegiable,i remember spending a fortune trying to look at those pages a while back.I think my best bet is to get my mum to go to Sunderland Civic Centre and ask them,she did this last time and they were really helpful.Mum gave the woman the details and the woman called her when the certs were ready, and if they had the wrong info on them,mum wasnt charged. This is turning out to be an expensive hobby,I have been ordering at least one cert a week now im scared to open my credit card bill lol

Hi Lesley, It is possible that the three are completely unrelated, but with a fairly unusual? surname, I would guess they are related somewhere along the line. Debbie

Lesley,Ive looked on Free BMD and i presume the Rowsons are the ones in Clun vol 6a page 615? I looked up clun and it says on the border of Shropshire,Then i looked on Family search,typed in Emily,the year of birth and the county of Shropshire. Twin births usually have the time of birth recorded on the certificate which may be helpful. Although I believe Scottish certificates have this anyway but in England and Wales time of birth is only recorded in the case of multiple births. This is for legal reasons, tells you who is the elder.
