My great great grandfather was standing outside his shop in Aldeburgh High Street in WWII when retreating German bombers dropped their remaining bombs prior to leaving, and killed him. He was 90, and his shop was the only place demolished! My grandmother is 99, but unfortunately not very well.

My ggg grandmother, Mrs Ann Baker, lived to 104 - she died in 1914. She got her telegram from the then King, Edward VII (I have a copy of the telegram but had to write to Buck Palace to confirm it was genuine as their web site says they started sending them in 1917 - turns out some were sent prior to that date they're just not sure who to) I also have a copy of an interview with her from the local paper on her 100th birthday which makes for fascinating reading From the same side of the family there are lots of 80 and 90 year olds - I'm not entirely sure if I want those genes though - Mrs Baker was a widow for 22 years (her husband only lived to 81!) and my Granny for nearly 40... (altho I don't think she minded too much)

My G grandmother died in 1997 aged 94, a few weeks off her 95th birthday. She had a sister who died in 1990 aged 95 - the relative I knew born in the 19th century. And there is another sister still living at 98 (b. 1905). This GG aunt has proved very useful in obtaining information about more distant ancestors. I hope I have some of their log-lived blood!

There was a lady who lived in my local area, a few years back, who held the claim of being Britain's eldest lady. I remember her appearing on the local news a couple of times. I'm certain she was over 110 years old.

Hubby`s grandmother was born 1897 and died 1989 making her 92. She lived in an old peoples home, and had been totally blind for the last 14 years of her life, but it was plain who ruled the roost.

My gx5 grandfather was born in 1758 and died in 1842 aged 84. Quite impressive for those days! Another related member lived well into her nineties. But its my welsh lot who seem to be drinking the right water as going back through the centuries, many lived to be well into their nineties back in the 1800's

My boyfriends grandad is 102years old a couple of years ago he had pneomonia, but pulled through. Hes not on my tree yet as he is in Hong Kong and I havnt researched that side yet wouldnt know where to start. But my two children have the surname so I will have to one day. My Nan was 96 and my grandad was driving and keeping pigs up to the age of 90 but he was getting a bit careless on the road so had to give up then he sat at home doing nothing and died at 92. Debbie

Slightly off the point, but I have a possible relative who, if the ages are to be believed, became a proud father at the age of 66 and adopted another child at 71.

My mum's gt-grandmother, Jane, was 105 years. I have a photocopy of the newspaper clipping that includes a picture of her. "Mrs. Jane W. Ovens, Born in Ireland, Saw Eighty Years of Toronto's Growth...She took a keen interest in current affairs and never worried, and to this her relatives attribute her great age." When I'm stressed, my mum still says "Keep smiling."
