Hi Kathleen, Just had quick look at the 1891 census, there a few Samuel StAnleys, born in Cheshire ages between 2 & 50 There is one Samuel Stoneley age 41 bn Cheshire living in Maccelsfield, wife Hannah, loads of kids! Occup Silk Staffsman? A couple living in Yorkshire, but not born there. What sort of age would your Samuel be? Migh help narrow it down a bit. Debbie

Hi Kathleen Just a quick suggestion...Do you know whether John Francis had any sons? if so, theres a strong possibility they would have been named after somebody (Father, grandfather etc). Usually, a son would have taken either their Dads name, the Dads fathers name or the mothers fathers name. Were any of the sons named Samuel? Hope this helps Good luck Kath

Hello would be interested to see if you think I have right man here for my gg grandfather. Have copy of g grandparents marriage cert,John Francis Stoneleyit lists the grooms father as Samuel Stoneley occupation sawyer, then got copy of grooms birth cert, same details for father, was able to find parish entry for grooms baptism and for his parents marriage, all details fit.Tried to find birth details now of Samuel Stoneley, the only one I can find is born inTarvin nr Chester Cheshire 1830 ,my mum always thought they came from Yorkshire, have not been able to find Samuel so far on any census, dont know if he had any more children besides John Francis.Have recently found entry on 1881 census for a Samuel Stoneleigh a guest of HMP Portland place of birth Chester on any certs I have he is listed as a Sawyer or Labourer.Oh yeah also on Sam marriage entry it lists his father as John, and the birth entry also says father John.To further complicate things the surname is often mispelt.Do you think I need to do more searching or have I got enough info to say Samuel is my gggrandfather. Thanks for reading this I hope it makes sense to you Kathleen
