Hi all... Iv'e just added my voice & e mailed g.c. to request a seperate Look Ups board. maybe if enough of us e mail g.c. with our suggestions they may take this on board & in time make ajustments. e x

I agree with Margaret that people are not using the boards correctly yet. So we can help that by not responding to requests for look-ups on here - or just by posting a short message asking them to delete and repost on correct board. After a couple of weeks the boards should sort themselves out. Do think it is a shame though the the threads where people are saying 'I can search thishave these record' are getting lost amongst the look up requests.

Margaret I agree with you. It's all a bit new at the minute and I think after a few days it will sort itself out. I think the boards are self explanatory, we just need getting used to it. Also I think that things are staying longer on the boards I have found all past threads I wanted quite easily. I think we should give it time to work, just because we get used to something, doesn't make it right, changes were needed and I think GC have made an effort, lets give a chance. Lynda

I think half the problem is that some people are posting requests for look ups on all three boards to make sure they are seen. This was not the intention of any of the boards. I agree that there should be a separate board titled look up requests. But, will people use them in the way they were intended? They can only work properly if people use them properly. It does say at the top of the tips board to put look up requests on the Record Office board, but some are ignoring that, or not reading it. Margaret

OK Guys - this seems to be a good idea so far so I am giving it another nudge so everyone can read it. For those that have already posted notes on the Record Office Board - would it be possible for you to update your message or delete it and start again - to give it the "Lancashire" or "Staffordshire" etc heading that we are looking for?? I have posted this message on the Guest Book Board, this board and the Records Office Board so hopefully it will catch on. There are a couple of doubting Thomas's on the Guest Book Board but we can but try eh? I think this idea should work if we all stick to it - that is why I posted the message on all 3 boards. Thanks for your support guys!!

Andrea That does sound sense, I did put on one of the threads previous about where I could look up and the other one was for cemetery look ups. To be honest this new one has put me off as everyone is using it as a request board and not what it was intended for which was for people to put on which records offices they are willing to go to. So If this gets going I will add where I am willing to go to. Regards Ann,Darlington

I have been thinking about how to try and help this Records Office board work better as so far it is just getting swamped with look up requests and the offers of help are getting lost. I would like everyone's opinion on the following idea:- 1. If we use threads such as "Lancashire" "Staffordshire" etc - and then under these threads, enter where we would be willing to do searches in Cemeteries etc in Lancashire or Staffordshire - and then people know which thread they need to read for which area they would like searching. 2. If we find someone that would be willing to do a search for us - we send the request to their personal Email NOT post it on the thread - so the offers don't get lost amongst all the look up requests My idea is that this way, it should be quick and easy to find out if there is anyone willing to do a search for us in the area we are interested in and that the boards should stay reasonably clear so we can find what we want quickly and easily. If the look ups go direct to the person and they reply to the person wanting the request - everyone gets what they want. Short of someone making another website for this - do you think this would help solve the problem???? Opinions please.
