Hi all, I'm not sure where to go from here and am hoping for some advice. I have about four BARBER ancestors that emigrated to America from either Wales or Liverpool from 1892 till about 1920 at the latest. I have tried the Ellis Island site but they are coming up with nothing relevant. Is there another site that will have details of incoming migrants to other ports in the USA? I would be very grateful for any assistance, Sinead

Hi Sinead, I've got a subscription to ancestry.com which includes the census info. up to 1930. If you have some names I'll have a look on there for you. Emma.

Sinead and Roseanne, It might be tomorrow before I get any results. I don't know if it's because ancestry have changed the format of their site and the world and their dog are trying to access it, but it is incredibly slow tonight. I'll keep trying for a while and if I can't get a result I'll have a go tomorrow. Emma

Sinead, No sign of Florence and William on the 1920 census. Obviously Florence may be married and have a different surname but there's definitely no William born Wales. I'll check the 1930 census next for them. Let me know if you want me to check the earlier census records for the Barber's I've already found. Emma.

Roseanne, I've had a look for Frederick and Helena, unfortunately the 1860 and 1870 census are only partially indexed and I haven't been able to find them. Do you have a year of birth for Helena and did she come back to England at the same time as Frederick? Emma.

Hi Emma, Many thanks for the info- this seems to be them. I found William on a ship transcript for Ellis island but his name was crossed out so possibly he died.As for Florence without her marriage details which I cannot locate in the UK it will be awkward to trace her. If possible could you check an earlier census for Joseph Barber to see if his wife's name can be had? Many thanks,Sinead

Hi Emma Helena Fleming Frederick/francis's daughter was born in the usa in 1865 I have new york on one census and new orleans on another. Frederick/francis fleming was born around 1840 in scotland - i am led to believe. By 1881 the family had returned to liverpool. I can only guess that they came back together. Helena's mother was called Ellen maiden name hammond. Thank you Roseanne

Sorry Sinead, The 1910 and 1900 census aren't indexed either! It would mean trawling through hundreds of pages to find him. I'll have a look through the site and see what other records they have incase there's something else that can help. Emma.
