Hope you got there! I do the same sort of thing. In fact I'm supposed to be putting the shopping away now. Good luck with the Irish link - I'm struggling, too. My husband has lots of rellies still over there but they don't seem as interested as me! I'm writing to a cousin soon to see if they'll go to the cemetery for me!! ( Sorry, not Donegal)

Hi Helen, instead of getting ready for work, I sent the message. Thanks so much for your suggestion. Good thing I work so close, can still make it to work on time!

If you look on the Records Office Board, Gwyneth is offering to do marriage lookups for Ireland- although rather ancient ones - she might be able to help.

Most of my dad's ancestors were born in England. All of my mum's were born in Ireland. My mum has always been there for me, cheering when I found information about the English ancestors (because no one on my dad's side cared), and encouraging me when I was discouraged. I would LOVE to find out something about her great-grandfather as she adored her mother and her family, but don't know where to begin. (I've only added to one branch of my mum's side since I began researching 25 years ago.) John Ovens, born around 1808-1809, we believe in County Donegal. He lived in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1842 and moved to Toronto, Canada around 1850. He was a teacher while in the States. His death certificate does not include ANY information about his childhood. Marriages were not (well) recorded in Ontario, Canada until after his marriage. I could not find any information in the States for his marriage. Would anyone have access to an Irish census for the 1808 time period, or be able to point me in the right direction? I've checked the IGI and the only record that applies to John is the 1881 Canadian Census (it's a wonderful record, but I discovered that one years ago, before it was even added to the IGI). My mum's birthday is in 2 weeks and I can't think of a more special gift that I could give her than to say I found out something about her side of the family. Would anyone be able to help, please???
