Hi there, I can recommend "The Family Historian's Enquire Within" written by Pauline Saul. It is now on the 5th edition and the ISBN: 1 872094 83 X. I also have a very useful publication which lists all the District Register Offices in England and Wales with all their addresses. It only costs about 75p and is published by the East Yorkshire Family History Society. This is on it's 14th edition. This can be bought from many FHSocieties. Mary

Hello Gill When I first started three years ago I went to a family history course at the local adult education centre. The tutor there suggested we start with a book called Beginning Your Family History by George Pelling. It's a small paperback and costs around £5. It's a good little book. Not too much to overwhelm you at first.
