thanks for that carol - I had wondered that but now heres the rest---- he is on his marriage certificate in 1891 as 28 on the 1901 census he is 32!! this gets worse doesnt it I also can find no trace of him on 1881 or 1891 census Jan |

Janet, have you changed the title of this thread since I last looked? I am sure I saw Age Concern, or am I just getting tired. |

Have a look at the age of husband on marriage certificate. If it is roughly the same as wife, then she may have doctored her age to make it look better. I am not certain about the differences in place of birth, but it does depend on who the enumerator spoke to. |

Could anyone please give any advice on this. My gt.grandmother on the 1901 census is aged 30, on her wedding certificate in 1891 she is 24 on the 1891 census she is 25 (taken before her wedding) on the 1881 census she is 15 on the 1901 and 1891 census she is down as being born in Westminster but on the 1881 census she is born in Brentford, middlesex??
