From Google: Meaning of Bible Name: Hadassah Hadassah: A myrtle; joy The Book Of Esther is the story of how a young orphaned Israelite girl from the tribe of Benjamin (Esther 2:5-7) rose from being a former prisoner-exile to Queen of Persia. Originally named Hadassah, meaning myrtle (an evergreen shrub used for its violet flowers and for making perfume), she later became known as Esther, which is a form of the Persian word satarah, which means a star. Hope this helps Alison

Has anyone heard of the name Hadassah for a girl? My great grandparents must have been keen to have a Hadassah because they called two daughters by the name but unfortunately they both died young. Maybe someone has a good website of names which I think has already been mentioned on here - sorry to be repetitive! Anne
