can anyone tell me if peggy is a short version of margaret as on the familysearch site when i search for a peggy it gives margaret results? (my father belives he had aunts named both peggy and margaret or are they one and the same meaning my pops is going senile?)

Yes. Peggy is a nickname for Margaret. Ann Glos

Or maybe he isn't senile! According to my birth certificate, Peggy is my name, not a nickname. :)

Not read your "Swallows and Amazons" then? Peggy was Margaret to her mother and Nancy was Ruth (because pirates are ruthless").

Just a thought, but perhaps there were TWO Margarets in the family, and one was called Peggy to distinguish between them? I know a family where this happened. Janet East Northamptonshire
