Hi, I've also got duplicate names in my tree too. I read somewhere that sometimes they did it to save the expense of registering another birth - they just used the deceased child's details. Sounds strange, that. Sue |

i too have got instances where babies or other children have died and the next one has been given the same name susie |

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that it was considered to be good luck to name the next child after the one that had died, often resulting in a long line of children with the same name being born to a couple. Zoe |

I have several instances in my tree where a child died early on in life, and a lter child was christened with the same name. I guess if they were family names then they wanted them to be passed on. |

If it's the same parents it's most likely that the original bearer of that name died in infancy. |

Hi- have been given some family info re late 1800's - there are repeated names within same generation - does this mean they re-used the name because a child died - or is it more likely to be a mistake - has happened several times Thanks Doreen |
