Lynda The one I bought was also produced by S&N but I will have to put it down to experience and be very very careful before I consider buying another cd. Many thanks for your kind offer to look up rellies on your cd but unfortunately I don't know their addresses at the time of the census. Albert

I the online index is the same as that sold on CD-ROM by S&N but more up to date and being updated all the time. I bought some of their indexes with the census CD-ROM's and I understood fully that there were not complete indexes. The indexing is being done by people buying the census and I think you get free access to the database so perhaps the answer is to get indexing! Like any data source it is invaluable if you find one of your ancestors but a disappointment if you don't. I have bought over the years many CD-ROM's, fiches etc which have not given me all the information that I need. It is just a risk you take if you do not have access to libraries. It often costs me a lot more to get down to the part of the country that interests me so I can visit the library or record office than it does to buy my own copies. Martin

Albert Mine is produced by S&N I bought mine at a History fair. But the next one I am getting from S&N direct www.genealogysupplies.com/ The cost is £49.95 Sorry that you have wasted your money on the one from ebay. If you would like me to look anything up for you on the 1851 and you have the address I will be happyto look it up for you. Lynda

Lynda No mine is just one disk with only an index on it no actual census records. Think that it normally costs about £60 but purchased mine on ebay and wasted £41 on it. Can you please tell me the name of the company who produced your disk and where it can be purchased from ? Albert

Albert Have you the CD's that you see the image of the census on? This is what I have. There are 31 discs with area and address search. It did cosy £49.95, but overall I think it was worth it. Lynda

I bought an 1851 census for the UK, afterwards I found out it had only limited coverage but luckily the county I want (Yorks) is quite well covered. Great! Apart from the fact that I can't load it onto my pc because I dont have the Family Tree Maker package! I have a cd which works great as a coaster, but is useless for genealogy. Oh well, mebbe nowI'll save up for the other bit (which I have no other use for) and then I can look at the census. Rachel

Lynda This cd is indexed by name and also gives age, area (not address), piece & folio numbers. There is a list of the London areas covered available after you load the cd. Am very disappointed with it. Alan

Diane I just had a quick look and it said a 90 subscription was £5.00 with 138,216 entries and a yearly subscription was £14.95 with 1,553,827 entries. Don't understand the difference in the amount of entries. I did read last week that if you offer to transcribe you get it free.So that may be a good option. Lynda

I've seen that website, but I believe you have to subscribe to search.

Albert I have the London 1851 and have not so far found anyone, but I think to be fair it's because it is addressed searched and in 1851 I don't know where they lived, although probably Islington, and the Streets I was looking for were there. Did you know that there is an online facility for the London 1871 to name search? It's not complete but may help the address is http://thegenealogist.sandn.net/ It maybe worth a look. Hope so as I am getting the 1871 next week! Hope this helps a little Lynda

I recently purchased a copy of the London 1871 census index cd published by S&N Genealogy Supplies. Knowing that several ancestors were living in London at that time I looked forward to finding them. There was not even one of them listed on the cd. Afterwards I discovered that it was not a complete coverage and for example included Islington west but not east, north or south Islington. Foolish me assumed that a London census cd would cover the whole of London. Other buyers beware ! Have other members suffered similar experiences or am I just unlucky ?
