I know we had a long thread running on old occupations, but i have just found a strange one for my husbands family, can anyone tell me what a 'husbands man' did for a living please? It seems to be THE job for about 60% of his ancestors! Regards Yvette |

Yvette It's an old term for a farmer. Animal Husbandry was the occupation of one of my great great grandfathers. Farmer who worked with animals. Margaret |

I think I read somewhere that a "husbandman" is a tenant farmer and a "Yeoman" is a farmer who owned his land. |

Just out of interest, the name George means 'husband' or 'farmer', whilst Georgina is simply husbandress. Why does everyone else's name mean something like 'bright' or 'powerful' and i get stuck with that! |

I've always thought the name Georgina sounded rather elegant. Linda means 'serpent'... unless you're Spanish where it means 'pretty'. I don't find either meaning particularly accurate! |
