Hi Pam, Was it something to do with travel by coach and horse? There is a type of carriage called a ""Fly". Sue

Pamela....... FLYMAN [1] Driver of a light vehicle hired out for carriage of passengers. [2] Theatre stage hand. Fly can also relate to a sail on a ship so he could have been responsible for the setting of this sail
