Military Regiment Identity Help Needed

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this. It sounds like APC could very well mean Army Pay Corps. I'd read somewhere that the 10th Lincs were also known as the 'Grimsby Chums', but I'm not sure if my grandfather's regiment would have been part of this.

PO. . . or perhaps not - was just looking at regiments.org for something else & spotted the Army Postal Corps was disbanded in 1908 & recruited from the Middlesex Regt - so Army Pay Corps (which also has a page on the site) sounds more likely! (Don't know why it's not in the list of abbreviations.)

Someone called Terry pointed me to a very useful site when I was trying to pin down some facts about a military relative of mine (thanks, Terry). www.regiments.org has a lot of info about the history of British & Commonwealth regiments, and a list of abbrieviations, which says that APC = Army Postal Corps!

Thanks Keith! I was wondering if it could be related to police duties, or maybe it could be something entirely different. Jill

Hi Gillian. 10th Lincs means 10th Battalion the Lincolnshire Regiment. Will try to find what A.P.C. means and and post. Keith

I found my Grandfather's name listed in the Absent Voters List of Grimsby for 1919 and it states the following: CRISP, John Cyril Horace 16 College Street, Clps. 10th Lincs. A.P.C., Surrey I know that he was a Policeman after transferring to Surrey from Cleethorpes, and maybe before, but can anyone identify what the 10th Lincs. regiment would have been and what A.P.C. stands for? I've looked on the military websites, but I can't seem to find out what A.P.C. means. Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated! Jill Crisp Calgary, Canada
