Talking of HenryVIII's marital problems: How about a 12 greats uncle accused of adultery with Anne Boleyn, sent to the tower and beheaded. All his estates and papers were confiscated, and saved for posterity as a result we now have remarkable details. See a very accessible talk given by a historian http://brereton.org/professor_eric_ives.htm

Family legend has it that there was a Hamilton in the family descended from Lady Hamilton, Nelson's mistress. Yesterday I got the birth certificate for my grandmother (1887) and her mother was Hannah Hamilton. Whoopee! But: The 1881 census shown Hannah Hamilton aged 21, the daughter of a waterside labourer in Poplar, so I recon that's scotched the nobility connection myth.

Nothing famous in my tree. Except maybe that a second cousin of my mam married a cousin of Roy Castle. Apart from that, nothing else that would be make the record books. Not sure about the corners report - maybe the the local county record office can point you in the right direction. Another idea might be to check the newspapers at that time. I had a corners report on a word document sent to me recently. I will ask the sender where they got the report from - I guess from a newspaper - but you never know. Paul

Has anyone else got a famous name on an ancestor's birth, marriage or death certificate? I received a death certificate (dated 1891) in the post today which is very interesting since my ancestor drowned in the bath, and therefore there was an inquest. The deputy coroner is A BRAXTON HICKS. As a mother of four I know exactly what braxton hicks are -relatively painless contractions which appear around the middle of a pregnancy, but I wonder if this is the doctor who gave them his name. The internet tells me that JOHN BRAXTON HICKS is the man in question (in around 1872), so perhaps my one is his son. Nonetheless, it's made my day!! SAD, eh? Does anyone know whether I will be able to get hold of a copy of the coroner's report?
