BORN AT SEA?

I think you would need to visit the Records Office at Kew. Births, Marriages and Deaths at sea are in a separate set of registers. The National Archivist site has scanned a lot of the records but at the moment they only have 1854 - 1890. Jill

My great grandfather, SAMUEL PAINE was born 1823/24 on HMS Ramillies, which was the command ship (Captain W McCullock - nickname "Flogging Joey") during the Kent and Sussex Blockade. Can anyone tell me how I can find out where he was registered so that I can find the names of his parents and thus go further back in my tree? The area covered by HMS Ramillies was from North Foreland to South Foreland off the coast of Kent. I live near Bristol, UK.
