If you only get half your money back, and you are not 100% certain and need a checking point, it would be better sending to the local register office. If your checking points dont match, they send you all your money back. The cost of a stamped addressed envelope and a stamp have got to be cheaper than half the cost of a certificate.

Hi, it is a bit of a worry. I've got the same problem with Scottish births. When viewing the film from the Family History Library no middle names were recorded but it seems in real life they had a middle name and do use it on other documentation. So unless you're looking for an unusal name and a small town I guess you can only say it is probable. Christine

Hi Clare! Please can you clarify where exactly you looked as this will make it easier to answer your question. Did you know that when you order a certificate you can provide a 'checking point' (eg fathers name/occupation/middle name) so that if the cert does not match this, they will not send it and will refund half your money. Most indexes will show the first two names in full I believe, but most censuses only show christian name and maybe middle initial. Will look for your comments later. Maz. XX

Please someone help I have gone through the indexes of birth, deaths etc and cant find what I am looking for. Do they always put the persons middle inital in when recording them, as I can find 2 people with the correct first name and surname but when I ordered the certificate the middle name was not what I was looking for. hope someone can help !
