Theres also a Thomas Popkins aged 8? and a Sarah Popkins aged 7 or 1(cant read the ages properly on census image ) Also on the image, you cant see Roberts age,but as he was 1 on 1881,it could be a 10 The family were living at 1 Duckett St,Mile End Old Town Anna

Thankyou Anna, I will check it out, I'm still wondering how the family avoided the 1901 census as I don't belive they left the country for any period of time. On a lighter note was Duckett Street the road Nicholas Lyndhurst used to travel back in time in 'Goodnight Sweetheart'? Nikii

Anna

Anna Report 3 Dec 2003 07:49

Nikii, I think that it was Ducketts Passage in Whitechapel in "Goodnight Sweetheart" I thought it sounded familiar lol Anna

You know - I've had the same problem.... Found my gr gr grandad on 1881 but can;t find him or my gr grandadin 1901. Thomas Ivison was born in 1895 in either carlisle or gateshead, and his father William Ivison was born in 1870 in Carlisle. His wife was Fanny, not sure of much more... Maybe someone will have more luck than me......

Anna, I'm so glad that you have found Maud's family on the 1901 census as my Dad said Maud had a sister called Elizabeth nicknamed Lizzie so this confirms that the info on the 1881 census is the right family. Now I can try and trace as I have a rough idea of Elizabeth's dob, and see if there are any living relatives. Thankyou so much Nikii

Anna

Anna Report 3 Dec 2003 14:22

Youre Welcome Nikii I wonder if the odd looking name on the 1901 transcription is Sarah as the age would fit if she was 6/7 on 1891 I guess you will need to pay to look at the actual census image to clear that one up. I still cant find Maud or Charles on 1901 though Best Wishes Anna

I had same problem with my relations, until I eventually found them - they had all been registered by their nicknames!, if only our relations had thought about how many sleepless nights and hairpulling days they had brought to theyre future relations :-)

Victoria Report 3 Dec 2003 15:39

Like the others have said they are probably on there but spelt wrong. I went mad looking for a Mark Dent and wife Elizabeth Dent on the 1901 census only to find them eventually spelt Maria Dent Male and Ann......Ann was registered Ann Elizabeth but used Elizabeth only until 1901...why is beyond me. Dont give up!! Vicky

I've been trying to track down a Harvey W Faulkes who should appear on both the 1881 and 1891 censuses (at least). He married an ancestor of mine - she was born circa 1883. Not sure when or where he was born - but we think he came from the Pershore, Worcs area. The microfiche of his marriage shows his name as Harvey W Faulkes - married in Upton in Sept Qtr 1920. Any ideas? ShirleyB
