The earliest complete census available for the whole of Ireland is 1901. Earlier census records were destroyed for one reason or another around the time of WW1. Some remnants remain but they are very sketchy. An easier way to trace the births may be through the LDS. Over here they hold films of the indexes for the wole of Ireland from 1864 to approximately the time of partition in the 20's. Your local LDS should be avle to get hold of the necessary film for a small charge. Paul.

I have my MOLSON family in 1881 census residing in Newington Surrey. I notice that the 3 younger children were born Belfast. Was there a census 1871 in Belfast as I would presume father would be alive and I could find out his name. I would like to send off for birth certificate of Alfred Molson b 1867 Lambeth but I have not been able to find him on 1837 to get birth reg either. Any ideas? Shirley
