	You have to look at the whole household - it could be a prison, secure hospital, workhouse or similar. Sometimes the address will tell you, otherwise you would need to look at the first few people listed as they will be the ones 'in charge' and it will say their occupation -i.e. doctor, prison officer etc. Maz. 	People in Workhouses were also called inmates. Bob

Member Since: January 2003 Posts: 307 Send Message	hi, i have found inmate as an occupation on the 1901 census and as this could be a possible rellie i`d be interested to know what it means. at first i thought perhaps a prison inmate. does anyone know? this person is only 13 which would be very young for prison. or was that the way of life then? thanks julie
