Thankyou all for your kind replies! I believe it was the Alice but their names are no-where to be seen on the passenger list, not sure what to do now but I'm as sure as hell not going to let it beat me!! Maybe they where stowaways and no one knew they were there! Theres a thought! (unlikely on a pleasure boat though!) Again, many thanks for answering my problem Paula

Paula have e-mailed a site which has a lot about the Alice if thats where he died, it has passenger lists etc. Bob

Paula, this sounds like the PRINCESS ALICE, a Thames pleasure boat which sank on Tuesday 3rd September 1878 following a collision with a coal ship, the Bywell Castle. Over 600 people died, most likely 640, so it is bound to have been reported in even the national newspapers. I hope these details will help you to narrow your search if you do check newspaper archives. Regards, Charles.

Have you tried the local newspaper archives, they would have probably reported the accident.

Can anyone help me? I am loking for a relative for a friend of mine, her g.g grandparents drowned during a leisure trip on the Thames, London in the late 1870's. How can we find records of this? Hope someone can help, This is my friends brick wall!! Many thanks Paula Yeo
