Wait for the bus

I was looking through the Cambridgeshire village of Bottisham in the 1881, and found three houses whose address was Wait for the bus, then the name of the road, Bottisham. So I suppose that outside these houses was ... where you wait for the bus. Jan.

Jan This must be some sort of error. There were no buses in 1881. Bus is short for omnibus and the word came into being circa 1909. There would only have been trains, possibly a coach and horse or a cart. Is this another joke in the 1881 census like Robert Goodman? Gary

Jan, I thought the same as Gary. It was an amusing picture though!

Jan Why not post it on the historical enquiries page at: http://www.bottisham[.]org.uk/ (remove the pesky brackets of course) Incidently this must be one of the best village web sites ever Bob
