The plot thickens, spoke to my uncle again this evening - When Frederick enlisted on 5th October 1875 his age was recorded as 18 years and 7 months. Therefore born in 1857. When he died in Australia on 5th December 1892 his age was recorded as 42 dob unknown. Therefore born in 1850. What do i do now?!

Thanks for your look-ups Rosemary. I want to believe that the Frederick James you found is my one but my Great Uncle very much disagrees and this is making me doubt the information too. He believe that Frederick (who would be his grandfather) was born 29 Feb 1855. I feel that because the day and month are the same it is highly possible that they are one in the same. I will have to find out where he got his information from - i have a feeling it was from a death certificate. Did people lie about their ages or is it possible his wife didn't know his true age? Thanks Genevieve - yes i do have that list but cannot link anyone to my tree. it is very infuriating not to be able to match anyone up. I also have a few details of other Chipperton people from other censuses that people have looked up for me - only 13 in 1901. However without any record of the birth or marriage of the older Frederick or his children Charles and Jane it is proving very difficult.

Hi Alison, Have you checked out the IGI on familysearch, there are quite a few Chippertons on there, some from the London area. Gen

I am trying to trace members of the Chipperton family. I now know that there are only 33 (aged over 18) in the UK thanks to Nesta and her electoral role. There were also around this number in 1901 and the number looks set to get smaller. I have traced back to my Great great Grandfather Frederick Chipperton whose marriage certificate of 1884 states that he was aged 29 and in the parish of Marylebone and his father was also called Frederick Chipperton (the first a Boot Clicker and the father a porter). However the trail now goes cold.i can find no record on 1837 of a record of birth for either Frederick. Apparently there was also a brother Charles and sister Jane for the younger Frederick. Cannot find these recorded either. Is there anything that i can do?
