I have found my ancestors in 1881 as follows........ Richard Mills 27 Bethnal Green Middx Labourer(bricklayer) Jane Mills 21 Walthamstow Essex Ernest R Mills 1 Bermondsey Surrey residing at 45 Delaford road Camberwell Here they are in 1891............. Richard Mills head 37 Shoreditch Steam crane driver Jane Mills wife 31 Walthamstow Ernest Mills son 11 Peckham Ellen Mills dau 9 Peckham Percy Mills son 7 Old Ford Harriett Mills dau 4 Homerton Thomas Mills son 2 Stepney Edith Mills dau 8mth Stepney residing at 44 Duckett Street Mile End Old Town Other refs I have for the family show them residing in Peckham - Sept 1881, 1909 Stepney, and 1913 Mile End/West Ham. My problem is that I can not find them in 1901 to find out if any more children were born after Edith. I have searched various surnames including Mills, Nills, Hills, Mulls, nulls, Mells, and Nells. All to no avail. I had a poss death ref for Richard Mills but as I can't find any of the family in 1901, I can't clarify . Would some kind soul please have a look and see if they can possibly find some or all of this family for me? Many many thanks Shelli

This is odd. I looked for Janes aged 40-42 born in Walthamstow, and found four: Cluff, Glover, Waterman and Woodhurst. None of these look remotely possible! Is it possible that Richard had died by 1901 and his widow had remarried?

Kathryn I did wonder this the poss death I mentioned is in 1896 so it is poss that jane has remarried. I was hoping this wasn't the caes and they had just been mistranscribed Ken will have a look at that one Thanks for looking

Bren from Oldham

Bren from Oldham Report 18 Dec 2003 22:42

I to have problems with the Mills Surname in the 1901 census I have been unable to find my husbands grandfather. I know he existed because I have his marriage certficate for 1901 which gives his address and occupation but he does not show on the 1901 census the problem is Mills is such a common name so it is highly likely that some entries were missed when being transcribed Bren

Shelli, I searched for each individual just by first name and age and I'm not finding anything that matches once I use to census decoder to see if any other family members are with them. Crista
