I know there is lots of information about tracing your ancestors going back in time but what about when you want to work forward in time to find living relatives. I have found a grand uncle David Kinghorn born 1871 Eastwood, Renfrew, Scotland died 1939 in Gorbals, Scotland, death certificate signed by his son Edward. How do I find Edwards details and his children if any?

It depends on when the children were born. Pre-1901 it's relatively simple providing there aren't any weird and wonderful variations of the name. That gives thirty years for your relative to marry and have kids. If he didn't have children until after 1901, then it's more complicated. Do you know the names of any living relatives? They may appear on electoral rolls (some people on here have them on CD).

You could try 1901 census if you haven't already done so. He would have been 30 by then and the chances are he might have married and started a family. Sue

Forgot to mention, but scotlandspeople is a good website to try first.
