Hi Kim Go to this site societe-jersiase/org and this should be able to help you don't forget the www. to start with My ancestors came from Guernsey and a lot of the info on the LDS site about their family has proven to be inaccurate because entries have been made by people who have put in what they think they know instead of the true facts Bren

Thankyou Brenda, will look there. The LDs, have put my great-great grandparents born surrey, england instead of Jersey, Gorey, and Grouville has been entered as Gronville Derby........ if I didn't know could go to completely wrong tree.....fortunately, I haven't yet........ bye KIM

The number of times I've seen entries like 'Isle of White(!), England' and other such nonsense on the LDS site. If all the Channel Islands are misspelt and down as being in England as well, then it's no wonder information about them is so hard to track down.

I have been over to Guernsey and looked at the records over there, the early births/christenings have a lot of information which ours don't even if they are in French it is easy to work out they write down the name of the child with son or daughter of and also give the mothers full name with godparents. Another problem with the Channel Islands is when the census was taken by people who had come over from the English mainland some of the French names were translated into English i.e my Gt gt grandmother was called Marie Nicolle but she shows as Mary Nichol my gt grandmother was Caroline Matthieu and on the baptism records for two of her sons on L D.S she shows as Caroline Matthew Bren

i'm trying to find my great great great grandmother's maiden name ,I know she married a Welch from Somerset, bu t I don't know if they married here or Jersey. I Hazard a guess at Jersey because her husband was a fisherman and their first children were born there orDerby if you believe Lds site... but I don't really know how to go further. I know form my grandmother that they did not speak very good English mainly French but they settled in Brighton so must have known some, I just think it would be interesting... Perhaps plan a holiday there.... start saving now... not until paid offxmas debts though...... bye KIM
