Hi, Can you you help? My surname is Grant however i have learnt that, although my fathers surname is also Grant, his fathers (my grandad) was originally born with the surname 'Digweed', and changed from Digweed to Grant by deepoll before my dad was born. I am really interested in looking into my family tree especially now having learnt that I need to look back at ancestors with the surname 'Digweed' I am very new at all this and really dont know where to start. can anyone help? or if anyone has any info at all it would be greatly appreciated. Do you know which name he married under? Try and find your grandparents marriage, then grandfathers birth. At least you know the name he changed from. |

I have a similar problem, on a visit to the Southport General Register Office's open day, they suggested the following that may be able to help me The British Library Newspaper Library Colindale Avenue Colindale London NW7 5HE The Public Record Office Ruskin Avenue Kew Richmond TW9 4DU I haven't written yet, but intend doing so in the New Year. His First name is Ted but I'm unsure as yet to the birthdate. I think he married under the surname Grant, I was told it was all changed officially by D-Poll. |

Helen. the 2 addresses I have given you are The Newspaper one because they had to announce the change of name in the press, and the other because changes by deed poll are kept there. |
