Hi Melvyn Great Harwood and Rishton are about 2 miles apart, repectively 3 miles north and 3 miles north west of Accrington. May I suggest, however, that a birth in 1839 or 1840 would make the person a bit young to have fathered a child who was born in 1853. On the other hand, a marriage in 1859 would be quite long time after that birth unless it was a second marriage. Do you know for certain that Mary Ann Martin was the mother of the dead child? There is a marriage of a Henry Chippindale Jan-Mar 1851 in Blackburn xxi 20, but this was not to Mary Ann Martin. I hope this helps a bit. Stan

Thanks stephen, According to his grave he was about 1834/35 and i think it was either in the Garstang or Accrington area of Lancashire.

International Genealogical Index / British Isles - 2 There are 2 Henry Chippi(/e)ndales born in Lancashire on IGI between 1825 and 1845, though of course there's no guarantee either is yours. 1. HENRY CHIPPINDALE - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 24 NOV 1839 Great Harwood, Lancashire, England 2. HENRY CHIPPINDALE - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 15 NOV 1840 Great Harwood, Lancashire, England The 1881 census on LDS then has the following: 1881 British Census - 2 Select records to download - (50 maximum) 1. Henry CHIPPENDALE - 1881 British Census / Lancashire Head Gender: Male Birth: <1841> Rishton, Lancashire, England 2. Henry CHIPPENDALE - 1881 British Census / Lancashire Head Gender: Male Birth: <1841> Great Harwood, Lancashire, England obviously 1841 is given as the birth dates here, but that is I think derived from ages, which were always a bit vague anyway, so this deosn't rule them out. Not sure if Rishton is anywhere near Great Harwood?? The wife of the first one is Martha, the second one is Esther, so perhaps these are not matches for your lot.

Melvyn, If they married in 1835 it was before Civil Registration started (July 1837) so you would have to look at Parish Registers for the Parish they were married at. Try Genuki. They have a lot of Parish Registers online. Good luck Jim
