No i dont think so, some did and some used initials, but dont think it was compulsory. |

"From 1851 more than one forename could be recorded" but I would be sure it was not compulsory (how could they enforce it?). I assume from this that the 1841 allowed only one though no doubt there will be exeptions. Bob |

Lesley, I was born in Kippax, Yorkshire, but now live In Castleford just down the road. Robert Clayton is the name. Perhaps I should have put "of Kippax" in brackets. It would be a nice place name but while there is one Kippax and a few Claytons, no Kippax Clayton! Bob |
