"Sent into court"

I think it might simply mean that the record was sent to the Bishop as a copy.... otherwise known as Bishop's Transcripts. Occasionally I have found a parish that I am interested in does not have parish registers for a particular period.. Lost ... eaten by rats ... Thrown away... even sold to collectors or stolen! It may then be useful to look for the Bishop's transcripts... The LDS has filmed most of the available Bishops Transcripts.

Hi I have this note about register entries for a Welsh parish in the 18c "Note That no Copy of the Register Book hath been enter'd or kept from the death of the late Incumbent, till his successor came to reside in the said Parish in May 1748. And no Transcript thereof sent into Court for the years 1746 or 1747." I don't know whether this helps if it means that your records were not submitted centrally until a particular date, which I guess is what it means here, or something far more juicy, I don't know! Best wishes A

I was checking some parish registers today and the above phrase occured sometimes with baptisms. Has anyone got any ideas what it means? Thanks :o))
