This is a good tip, Penny. I have been collecting snippets for a little while now. I have included things like wars, legal reforms (child labour laws, voting laws), various inventions/discoveries (railways, anaesthetics) and anything else that might have had an effect on the lives of contemporaries. It sounds daft, but I've always found the 'on this day...' bits of newspapers a good starting place - and they usually have funny or odd things the history books would leave out.

First let me wish everyone a Happy New Year and may everyone be very successful in 2004 in their personal lives and their hunt for information in genealogy. Here is a site I thought some may not be aware of http://dmarie(.)com/timecap/step1(.)asp - remove brackets You can put in a specific date and get information on what was happening in the world on that date. They have information from 1800 to 2002. They say at the moment the information for 1800 to 1875 cud be a bit spotty. At any rate, I am planning on using this in conjunction with the dates I have on relatives - ie births, marriages and deaths and print out the information to include with my particular event. I'm trying to put together albums that will eventually include pictures, as well as any certificates I have and stories of any family members. I thought that including specific information on what was going on in the world at the time - say my grandmother was born - will make it interesting for later generations that may pick up my album(s) to look at them. I hope you can find something useful in this site. One last thing - I want to thank everyone here who has been so very helpful to me and quick to offer advice or suggestions since I joined. Penny
