Caroline, If you have an age and a place of birth for Jane from the 1901 census, you or some kind person with access to the 1891 census on line could look for all the examples of Jane for that year and place so long as she wasnt Smith or Jones you could get lucky. You will want the certificate though to get the other information it wil give you about both her and her husband, so you are just hedging your bets, Also have you done a search on the IGI for records of the marriage or the children's births, sometimes these can give mothers surname, also could look for her if you have a date and place there as well. Best of Luck, Pam

How sad am I Caroline, when my family ask what I want for birthdays or Christmas I say oh I'll have death cert please LOL. I searched for 2 years for the birth of my g grandfather Walter W Salter (yes don't laugh, his mother obviously had a sense of humor). Thought I had checked everything. 5years forward and back of date, I did everything, but somehow I'd not checked for Solter, durr. Good luck regards Jayne

Boy do I know they're not complete, but why is it the information I want is never there! LOL I've managed to trace the two kiddies on 1837online but no name of mother given at that time! Darn and blast!

Freebmd and Ancestory are not complete Caroline and this is probably why you can't find her. Sometimes you just have to send for the cert. Hope this helps. Good luck. regards Jayne

Ok...this time I have another wife missing. Arthur Brandon is on the 1901 with a "jane" as wife. I've tracked them down (hopefully) to a marriage in Mar 1896, Wellingboro' 3b 203. Now literally short of sending off for the certificate can anyone suggest how I can find her maiden name? as both FreeBMD and Ancestry do not have a Jane listed with Arthur...she's missing in action!
