Ellis Island is a great place to look, but I believe it opened in 1892. Hopefully, they arrived in the U.S. after that time. Good luck with your search. |

For immigrants from Ireland to America, I would start with ellisisland.org. Put in her name, only first and see how many hits you get. If its too many to trawl through try adding any other details your have - approx year of birth, where she came from, (though be careful with this, it can vary from townland, to district, to County, to just plain Ireland, so you might miss your entry by being too specific.). With any luck, (and I've had a good deal of that with my searches) you will find her original entry on the ships manifest, it will give you a description of her (possibly eye and hair colour, whether she could read or write) who she was going to stay with in USA and who her next of kin in Ireland was. I am researching my husbands family tree and know that his grandfathers sister from Ireland imigrated to America. Her name was Bridget Mulligan. How do I go about finding her? Gail Have now found 3 possibles but what do i do now? |
