Could any member of Ancestry.co.uk advise me, do they send a confirmation e-mail at the start of a quarterly or yearly subscription? I cannot find any record of receiving one so am unsure when my three months began. I am very disappointed with the site and don't want to waste any more money on it, but want to get my full three months on it to do look-ups for others before cancelling.

Pam: When I started my yearly subscription I did receive a confirmation letter from Ancestry with a list of contact information. I also received a phone call right before the holidays from them telling me that my subscription was about to expire....of course it was more than just a courteousy call....they wanted me to re-subscribe for $220.00 for another year! I found a wealth of information at the site both here in the States and in the UK so I probably will re-subscribe but not until a little later into the year as I will be attending night classes shortly and it would be a waste of time if I don't have the time to utilize the site. Has anyone ever thought to share the cost of the site amongst a few members? (Yes, I know that's against their rules!) I've often allowed others to access information at the site using my info and I've never had a problem....just a thought. Judy

Hi, If you log in to ancestry and click on edit account it will tell you what subscription you have - if you then click on more information it should tell you when you subscribed and when your account is due for renenwal. Hope this helps, Emma.

Hi Judy, I think your idea of sharing costs is very good, as a pensioner here in England I cannot afford £70 a year, so I do not know what Ancestry. co.uk can offer.

Pam as said above, if you click edit my account you can find out when your subscription runs to. I was a bit annoyed to find they had renewed my subscription without asking back in December. It wasn't the renerwing that bothered me as I use the site a lot and think its well worth the money, but I did not receive notification. Also as others have said they now add tax which certainly didn't happen when I first subscribed. Barbara

Judy...Can I just get this straight in my mind......If I subscribe to Ancestry UK, I will also be able to access information at American Ancestry ? Patsy in Calgary

Thanks all for your help, I have looked at my account and it states I am a registered guest....??? It will give me no other information and does not give me the option of finding out when my subscription is going to be due for renewal. I have 3-mailed ancestry asking them to clarify my position. Patsy I think there are differnt levels of subscription. I Subscribed for the uk one only which was 29.95 plus vat for three months, but when I tried to look at an American section it told me I had to upgrade. I do think they could try a bit harder to explain just what you get for your money! Babs

Pat.....Yes and no to your question. (Barbara is correct in her explanation.) Ancestry has different subscription rates depending on what records you want to access. You can, from both Ancestry UK and Ancestry US, choose just to access records from the UK or US records, or you can get a full subscription to allow access to all. I haven't the access to Ancestry UK so I can't be sure, but having the Ancestry subscription on the States side, I have that option. It appears to me that Ancestry UK and Ancestry US are actually one in the same company. When I do a search on my end with Ancestry (I have US census and records subscription) I can see that there are many England and Ireland results that I can't view, unless I want to pay for them....that is an option I will take when I renew my yearly subscription....which ends this month! If you want to check out what the US records has to offer send me an e-amil and I will send you information to access my account...(In case any of you are wondering, NO, I'm not a salesman for Ancestry! LOLOL! Ancestry, State side, anyway, has proven invaluable to me in my research.) Judy

Hi Judy, Thank you for your kind offer. I am not a full member of GC as yet, but have reached a stage in my research where I am going to have to shell out a bit more money (ie join GC and/or Ancestry) if I really want to progress (have about 4 brick walls at present and more being built!). I am looking for information on both sides of the Atlantic, so access to so many records would be a great help. Once I make up my mind I will be in touch! Many thanks again. Patsy in Calgary
