don't wait for these things, you'll wait for ever FreeCEN's start-up release contained work done over a number of years. The current rate of progress is tiny in relation to the amount of material. Not many people want to transcribe 1891 now it's all on Ancestry Most people working on PRs are working for FHSes, which sell their products to raise the funds they need. Effort going into FreeREG would be undermining them if it weren't invisible Really useful transcribed resources are only produced by really massive efforts, and FreeBMD is the only one going on. 1837online is there because only the page headings had to be transcribed. NBI as it stands represents decades of accumulated work and will take decades to finish. Don't rely on seeing S&N's census name indexes completed any time soon either, though they'll keep selling partial versions without making it clear that they aren't complete. In fact part of the problem is that the limited amount of volunteer effort available is being carved up between too many competing over-optimistic projects |

The Free Cen site does allow searches, but it depends which county you are looking for as to how successful your search is. Like Free BMD, it's ongoing with regular updates being added. Pauline |

Susie, I too keep checking out the freereg site and getting the pages now active, but searches not yet active or some such. Frustrating isn't it? Sorry but I have no idea when it will be up and running, but I wish it would be soon. Oh well, live in hope. Lynne |
