Alternatively, if you can't easily get to the records office for the area you are interested in, your nearest LDS records centre may be able to order you a copy of the records on microfilm. If you go to the family search website you can find out where your nearest one is. They have all the Census and parish records for that area and ordering films for other areas costs around £2.70. It takes a couple of weeks to arrive then you have about a month to view the film before it is returned. The website also gives details of all the records that are available to order. At my 'local' they are very friendly and happy to help people who are new.

If you have the information from the IGI then you should have the parish as well. The next step is the Local Records office for that Parish. You will be able to find these on line. Every County has them, some have smaller ones like Bath which deals just for Bath (Somerset) but the main one for Somerset is in Taunton. Can I also warn you to take a magnify glass, for the ones that are hard to read, also find out if you have to book a viewer, some only have a few so you need to book one so as not to have had a wasted journery. Any problems send me an email. Good Luck Irene

I am now at the stage where I have gone as far as I can on most of my lines to 1837, I now want to confirm details I have found on the IGI search for Parish records. Where do I start? On one of my lines with an unusual surname, I can get back to 1513 but now need to confirm all this information, how do I do this? Sorry for sounding stupid!! Liz
