I am now ready to send off for my first lot of certificates. I think I have all the info I need, numbers etc. But what I need to know is where is the best place to order them from. Can I go on line or would I be better printing off an order form or going to my local registry office? Please bear in mind that this is the first time I will be doing this but I cannot confirm the details I already have without certs and cannot carry on with the next stage of research without confirmation.

I find going online easy www.statistics.gov.uk/registration as long as you have details of district, vol and page number etc you pay online and recieve certificates in 4-5 working days. Kind regards Lorraine

Hi Sandra, it depends how impatient you are -if you want them quickly i'd do to the local register office,my local one is pretty good and they'll usually do it within the hour.If you want certs that are not from your local area i'd order them online(i'm waiting for some to arrive) but it would be quicker to write to the register office (3-4 days) rather than online(about 7 days). good luck Karen

I always order birth & death certs from Southport so long as I have all the info. If I get them from the local office they send me handwritten ones rather than photocopies and they occasionally make mistakes. I ask the local office for marriages - those are always photocopies. They will search for me at no extra cost and don't bill me if they can't find what I want. They are also much quicker than Southport. Jill PS I live in Oswestry! Fortunately I'm researching in Yorkshire.
