My mother got married and he adopted me so on my B/C it has his surname ! i asked my mother if she had to give my birth fathers name, she said no at that time it was not the law for the birth fathers name to be given if he had not been in contact with the the child or mother with in so many years it was not needed ! But the law has changed now you have to give the birthfathers name if not the adopton will not go through ..... thanks crista i know i need to take things easy and try not to make him run away i might just sit with some off the family and see if they can tell me a few things to give me a glue if they done want to give his name thanks again to you all for your surport and advice

Hi Mechelle, I know it sounds obvious, but is there nothing by way of a clue on your birth certificate? I assume there are no other living relatives who could give you anything to go on? It'll be pretty tricky with nothing, but never say never! Eleanorx

Thanks but thats just it i dont know a thing D.O.B ,.name , anything at all my mother was a young woman when she had me and in them times living in a small town in Ierland it was not the done thing and my mother was sent to a covent to have me ! My mother looked after me on her own and when i started to ask about my father i was told that i was better off not knowing who he is was for the best ! But now i just feel that it would interesting to know who he is and with being married with four of a family there is still some thing missing ! Dont get me wrong my love to my mother was stronger than anything and the same from her to me but it has bugged me for a long time and now since with my mother dieing not so long ago it has made me think more about who is he , and where is he thanks mechelle

Hi Mechelle, You could give a little more detail here as there are many people on these message boards who will bend over backwards to help if you can supply a little bit of info! I dont know how to start looking for my birth father, as i never knew him, My mother would never tell me for some reason or other, my mother has died since and i feel i need to now who he is ! My mother's family dont know who he is either (or they just wont tell ) ! ! WHERE DO I START any help would be great thanks
