It sounds to me as if whoever wrote it out was colour blind, and wrote down the wrong one. Was the certificate signed by the people, or did it say X - their mark? If that was the case, they wouldn't have known that the wrong name was written down. Jan

When i looked at my Great Grandads Birth Certificate it that his father was a Joseph White and mother was a Ann Potts and that he was born in Spondon. I then looked at the Parish Records for Josephs and Anns Marriage and what i found was a Joseph Brown and Ann Potts were married but the fathers name for Joseph Brown was John White so i am a little confused, have i found the wrong marriage or was joseph later adopted and his new surname was brown. Can anybody help please?
