Hi I don't know if these sites will be able to help, but they might be able to point you in the right direction. www(.)angelfire(.)com(/)de(/)BobSanders(/)html remove the brackets. It has a collection of material on tracing British seamen. www(.)barnettsearch(.)freeserve(.)co(.)uk Hope that these help. Gem

Sandra, searched through the 1901 census probably the same as yourself. The only John Roskruge born Falmouth is only 8 years old, so possibly the son of the John you are looking for. I do not know the procedure for people who are at sea during a census, but I am sure someone will be able to tell you soon.

My G Grandad was a carpenter in the Royal Navy.I have not found him in the 1891 census or the 1901 census. I don't know which ship he served on.Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to find him.His name is John James Roskruge (often misspelt) he was born 2/1/1861 at Falmouth Cornwall.I have tried leaving out the surname on the search but still I have not found him.
