Things got lost like they do now in the post. But if they were looking for a copy and could not find it in the indexing they would go to the register where they marrried and get a copy there. Perhaps they also sent another copy for the indexing. Might be worth someone asking. Irene

Hi Val Perhaps the person in question was never registered then when they needed to produce their birth cert for say a marriage or passport (I suppose they had them then!) they discovered they didn't have one. But would they have been able to register themselves or would they have had to get their parents to do it? Just a thought! Jeanette

I have recently been checking a transcription for 1898 births March qtr, and an entry has been added which said See M/34 after the district code. I have just learnt that this was a registration that was added in March quarter of 1934, must have been missed altogether in 1898. Val
