Hi Lucia, I think that outside of towns there were very few numbered streets as we know them today - everyone knew everyone, so if a letter came to the village for Mr Bloggs everyone knew where he lived. Most of mine who lived in villages just show either a road name with no number, 'cottage' or even 'near the church' in one case. Unfortunately for us it means you can't track down the exact location, but the homes of Ag Labs and similar were very simple and in the main are long gone anyway. Hope this helps. Maz. XX

Hello Shelli, I had a look at the next and previous households and they all said side of road, it seems the whole village lives on side of road. Lucia

When I found the family I was looking for on 1881 census, for dwelling it said Side of Road. What does this mean? Lucia
