can anyone advise me where to look forJohn Belton,born bout 1882?i have him married to florence Hook,27 may 1901, he is the son of samuel belton(all born in st pancras london)but cant find John registered anywhere,samuel is registered on marridge certificate as father(he is alive then but not as witness) i have a fitzgerald as a witness have tried to find connection there but nothing again, can anyone advise how i could trace JOHN BELTON pls, there seems to be no record of birth, death, just his name on marridge, any help appreciated thanks

re: rellies not appearing. I had a similar experience with my Scales ancestors, until I found that they had all been transcribed as Seales. Worth thinking about how your surname looks in longhand copperplate writing (as per the census return) .

Di You can buy viewer 4 from the LDS in Birmingham. Give them a ring, you can place an order over the phone, It's £5.95.

I just tried the Website and you can do it on www.familysearch.org ,by address. Just click Census choose 1881 British Census, and Select England as Census Country, then the next box For the County appears opens, select the county, and the next box for City/Town appears, Choose your city and click search.

Is it possibel to find out name of the pub that stood on 25 Millers Close, Dorchester Dorset, .. or even who was living there then..it was converted into a house in the 1900's and my father was born there Thanks.. Jo

Thanks for that Susan No I didn't get a starting point for St Mary's Road, just started somewhere in the middle of Ealing. Unfortunately Ealing is a big place. Will have another trawl through neighbourhood today.

If you are looking for a child born close to census time - don't forget to try putting in first name 'Infant' or 'Baby' as they may not have been named yet. This may help if you could find family via surname.

Thanks Kim I had just worked out that I could give that a try. No, Mary did not marry - she is still in Ealing , unmarried in 1891 ( was there in 1871) which is why I think she is likely to be there in 1881. Scanning neighbours now...... Got bored of clicking next household now. Think I'll just have to leave her on my missing in 1881 list. Even if I did find her it will only tell me she is a servant somewhere, but I hate having missing pieces to the jigsaw!

Nina, online on the 1881 census , choose british census , then stick in a popular/common name like Smith go down to the box for census country which comes up under birth /year range .Choose England then choose county Middlesex and then choose place/town Ealing , you can then start trawling through the names though i think maybe that Mary ISTED got married because I can't find her only an Ida Istead . which is not the right one. hope this helps KIM

Margaret I thought you said you could search by address ? I did give an address in Ealing in above post. I was just asking for a starting point - any place in Ealing will do. You can't start that kind of search in the online version of 1881. Nina
