Yes, the site was originally Genes Connected and when it was changed to Genes Reunited there was an outcry from some of the members.

In fact some of the people who complained then and threatened to leave / resign or, whatever are still here today, complaining yet again because the site has changed and that they will have to leave / resign or whatever.

No doubt we will be having the same discussion in twelve months time.....!

Make for interesting viewing, though.

Yes it was originally Genes Reunited when I joined in Feb 2003. I guess it really doesn't matter what changes are made there are always people who will complain. Some changes are irritating and not always for the better but at least you have to try them first and then fix the problems. To condemn something out of hand without trying them first is stupid. Personally I like the new layout - just a few tweaks and it should be fine. Doesn't really matter what you call it as long as it does the job it's required to do.

Digging in memory box....

Wasn't site originally called Genes Reunited and we had all sorts of complaints when they changed it to Genes Connected?????????

Hi

When I first joined this site in 2003 it was called Genesreunited.

I still called it Genesreunited. The format was completely different, and so were the background colours etc.

About every 18 months or so, the format changes and everyone complains, then new people join who don't know it as any different so the 'new' format/colours are the norm for them.

When Genesreunited first started it was blue, blue, blue. Then it changed to blue and green... my goodness the up-roar. Then the colours changed to green and green, again everyone complained about it. Now it's sort of a bluey/green colour with black writing, and people are still complaining.

Lets face it, all in all we don't like change. I, myself am finding it very awkward to navigate this new set up, but no doubt in a few weeks we'll all get used to it....that is until they change it again!

Some things never change. People have short memories.....!

Interesting to see some of the names complaining.

Please add me to your names list. I have no desire to be 'reunited' with anyone im researching.

Apart from anything else, I bet that I am not the only one that has physical and computer files and directories which include Genes Connected in the title. Are we expected to go through and re-label everything? Changing a directory name on the computer will make the location of old files more difficult!

Yes it's me again! I am adding my name to the list on this board as well as that on the others. One point I have to add to this is, there is already a complaint in the air about the amount of messages on the General Topics Board that is NOT relevant to Genealogy or its research. The administration of GC (I refuse to refer to it otherwise) must decide if this is to remain a dedicated Genealogical Research site which I/we signed up and paid a fee for, or is it to be a site on which you Reunite lost friends. If it's the former and they retain the name then I shall stay as a member. If it's the later, well...............! There is an ever increasing jumble on the boards as it is, this MUST remain a Genealogical Research faclity ONLY as it was intended, or the Administration may be seen to be accepting money under false pretences! See the list below and guess how much membership revenue this represents. I have just wasted 10 minutes of precious lunch-time sneaking on to the internet ('puter at home sick), looking for GC, only to be confronted with Genes reunited. I thought it was some sort of nasty virus or p*** take - you know like a crude site that uses the name of a familiar one, with a slight change, so I kept going back and trying again!! If the saying 'first impressions count' has any relevance, then I'm afraid, to me, Genes Re-united lhas got nothing going for it. Maggie

Hi Administration Staff. It's me again. Just wanted to say that from all the varying and increasing remarks on different Boards you've realy lit the fire under the boiler this time!!! Jim

Jim Report 3 Jun 2004 23:06

Having been abrad recently I have only just discovered the name of the site has been changed and I am completely baffled by the Administrators reasoning. My reaction/reply is addressed to the Admin staff. Surely as you are a Fee based operation, you should have consulted your Fee Payers before making such a glaring mistake. The messages already posted make the members feelings abundantly clear, i.e. A return to the original and more suitable name of Genes Connected would be preferred. From some of the remarks I've read, it seems that there are other alternative sites out there now, so to retain Fee Paying membership you should heed the Members wishes in this and consult before acting in the future. Thank you. Jim

I sent this message to the 'feedback' option. I'll add another post to let everyone know if I get a reply, though I know others have not been so lucky. Like many other subscribers I am dismayed that the name of the site has been changed without consultation with your paying subscribers - research? what research? No-one asked me. Who called it Genes Reunited in spite of its name? The name Genes Connected accurately describes the funcion of the site and if there was any mistake I imagine it was in the site being referred to as Genes Reconnected not Genes Connected. Genes Reunited does not reflect the function of the site in the same way. That is why the sister site is called Friends Reunited - it reunites living people, this site reconnects people living and dead. It is a side issue that a function of Genes Connected has become to reunite the missing with their relatives. Just listen to the pompous gripes of those who consider themselves 'serious researchers'. Looking at the boards there is no support for the name change. Please reconsider it in the light of the wishes of your subscribers.

I know I'm 51 this year and my kids think I'm past it!,and I'm getting such a thrill out of discovering my rellies (and frustrated when I can't).But there's no way I want to be reunited with them not for a long time yet anyway..... as far as I'm concerned I'm connecting with them..........and that's that !!!!!. Not that it will make a blind bit of difference but I had to have my say............... Happy Genes Connecting Everyone, Elaine
