Hi Peter, To find Louise's thread type Isle of Wight in the search box on the Records Board and all threads concerning Isle of Wight will pop up including her one - then just type in a reply to her thread.

Thanks. How do I find Louise? Have thought of this - her maiden name was Ann Nurse, d of James. She already had one(presumably) illegitimate son, b Jan 1856, but no birth registered for a daughter. I never thought I would find such a disfunctional family!! Thanks anyway for the ideas Still looking Peter

Could Margaret Ann, (known as Ann?) be the daughter of Ann (senior) before her marriage to Gustav and her birth registered in her mother's maiden name? IF she was 47 in 1901 she would have been born before the 1856 marriage. Although she was known as CROFT because of this marriage, was her death registered in her birth name perhaps? If they were running a shop in Brading, Isle of Wight there must be records of them in directories or similar. There might be a clue there. Louise has offered to do lookups in the Record Office on the Island. They have a card index of names there. That might produce some information for you.

Hi Peter, Have you tried www(.)genforum.genealogy(.)com Go to Country - Germany and put on a request. My grandfather was Danish. I put a message on Denmark and got lots of help including translation.

Thanks Christine - could be a faint hope, but he needs to be a widower of full age by Dec 25 1856! Also his father is not named, and I know he was Christian Freidrich (both birth and paptism give this GA's mother as Henriette Freidrike)....keeping looking! Peter

I am at my wit's end - don't know where to look next. Does anyone else have the solution to a family like mine? I have a great great grandfather named Gustav Adolph Krafft(also known as Augustus from another certificate) who married in 1856 in Colchester (of full age). He seems to have fathered a daughter in 1859 and his wife Ann was a widow in 1871.(Colchester census) No death for him! No birth either, but he could have been German. He was a widower at the time of his marriage - no first wife's death Also, in the 1881 Isle of Wight)census his wife (spelling now croft) had two daughters - Anne b c1857 and Agnes b 1859. I have all details and descendents of Agnes. Anne - never born, never married, never died! Wife Ann-b 1828? never remarried, never died! At Agnes's wedding witness was Margaret Ann Krafft - never born, never married, never died.....Margaret Ann Croft was living(aged 47) with her sister in 1901.(in Herne Hill, London SE) And you wonder why I am starting to believe in aliens!!
