Thanks Louise, have found some of the references for some of their births, can't find them on 1871 or 1891, but have managed to track down two of the married daughters on 1901, so I suppose we're getting somewhere, but can't find anything on the one I want 'Edward Henry T' my ggrandfather. If anyone has any ideas at all I'm willing to try anything. Thanks. Trudy

Hello again Trudy. I came back on and saw that you were still struggling on this and had another look. I still can't find much of use on the 1871 or 1891 census which is very strange given that this family were defintely around in the Mile End/Whitechapel area for some time. If you haven't already seen this, it might be the marriage of Rose Butt Name: Butt, Rose Elizabeth Record Type: Marriages Quarter: September Year: 1895 District: Bethnal Green County: Greater London London Middlesex Volume: 1c Page: 446 I guess the only way to crack this is to order some certificates (preferably those near census dates) and to see if you can't find them from the addresses on the certificates. Cheers, Louise

Hi, given up on the 1891 and tried the 1901, not much luck there either, although I know Alice married a John Hardman and I have found them on the 1901 living in Limehouse and William married to a Nellie living in Wood Green, but no sign of the others - anybody know what I'm doing wrong or any other ways to trace them? Thanks, Trudy

Hi Esta - Edward, Alice, Matilda, Rose all Mile End, Florence and William - Whitechapel. Think I have just found Albert - ref is St George S (not sure where that is!) Also Matilda (seniors) death is Sept 1880, Whitechapel. Trudy

Esta Report 7 Jan 2005 14:19

I just don't know what to do now - I've tried everything for 1871 and even tried going forward to the other census but NOTHING.......They are obviously a London family that should be somewhere ....................

Hi Esta - it gets wierder by the minute, I'm now on FreeBMD and can find refs. for the births of Alice, Rose, Florence and William, but I'll be blowed if I can find them for Edward, Albert or David (although gut instinct tells me that he is in fact ALBERT David, not David Albert as the other source I had for this stated!) and as there is no 'David' on the 1881 with the others. Well when you find them, if they've got a Victor James Lowe who claims to be born in Shropshire with them can I have him back please? No-one on the records board can find a definite for him! Lou xx

Thanks Louise, could very well be her - but I'm beginning to be positive the aliens abducted them and then dropped them back again before the 1881!!! Trudy

Louise Report 7 Jan 2005 13:16

Hi again. I've also been going round in circles on this. No sign of any of them on the 1871 census but I did find a possible birth for Rose: Rose Elizabeth Butt, Births Jun 1870, Mile End, 1c, 530. Hope this is useful and good luck. Louise

Hi Louise In 1881 William was a Labourer, the children were Rose (10), Albert (16), Alice (15), Florence (6), William (3), Edward (4), and David (not sure of his birth date). The address is 2 Railway Place, Tower Hamlets. Any help appreciated - have tried searching 'out of the box' for similar surnames but am having no luck at present. Thanks. Trudy
