The thing is (see my other thread is it reliable?) You can get a zero result on it one time. Go back later and up pops the entry. Dont understand it. Some sort of glitch they need to sort out.

I have had some big big problems with the site timing out. I got so frustrated that I nearly threw the pooter out of the window. In the end I had to change my password. As far as I know I haven't been suspended yet but I don't think they like me very much. It is a fairly useful site for the 1866 to 1920 bit although it is not nearly as complete as they claim. My grandfather's birth isn't on it, and neither are his three brothers. I thought that the rest was a waste of time. Now that I have said that I probably will be suspended for life!

Patricia You're right...I asked a police officer friend about it yesterday and she basically said the same as you about freedom of speech. However she did point out that anyone actually posting a thread instructing people how to obtain free credits could, at a push, be done for conspiracy to defraud, but its a very long winded process and one they probably wouldn't pursue cos of the cost of doing so! Just saying 'Hey I got free credits' wouldn't be classed as doing anything wrong

I've asked several people in different occupations and It about this, They say that family relatives cannot claim a thing from us. They would laughed out of court. They left a faulty system running-no fault of ours. You can tell anyone you like about it, we have free speech. If you tell someone it is not your fault if they decided to use it.

I have been suspended now also. My pont about the cashpoint is they would take it out of action when they knew it was faulty - notkeep it running. Why should we pay for credits we didn't ask for? Jacquie

It looks like I must be the only lucky one who has not had problems with this website, it seems. Every credits I have purchased I have recieved, and I have logged in and out with no extra credits added, so no worries about them sending me an e.mail requesting payment for free credits.. I have also never been suspended and have found several ancestors I could not find on 1837 or freebmd. It certainly looks like the site has some major problems. Luckily just not for me.

I agree - I've just logged on again and now i've got 1240 credits!!!!! I'm certainly not paying for them as I never asked for them in the first place.

I've just had the following e-mail from them and just noticed I've got 82 credits somehow even though all I've done is registered on the site and not even attempted to buy any credits. We are currently dealing with a technical issue on Familyrelatives.org which we are working very hard to resolve. It has come to our attention that units have been added to your account without a Credit Card Payment. We have adjusted your account to reflect the true status and would ask that you do not obtain further units without payment or without entering your Credit Card details. We are monitoring the situation carefully and anyone who has abused the website or who has provided information or who has made anyone else aware in any way of the technical issue (via telephone, email, forums or any other form of communication) about how they may procure units without payment, or who are found to have already done so, may be pursued for rightful payment and costs through legal means. Please be assured that we are dealing with the issue which will be resolved as soon as possible. Yours sincerely, Customer Service Familyrelatives.org

I haven't been suspended but I can't see to access information. Just put a search in for a marriage certificate, found the correct one but when I went to view it there was some strange icon in there instead. Ahhhhhh - I've been looking for this for ages and now another problem.

Im afraid that legally a bank dishing out money from an ATM would/could claim it back. However, I dont think anyone need be cringing behind closed curtains. I should imagine at worse, they will request payment.

JG70 Report 24 Jan 2005 13:56

I don't think we should be charged - as I didn't want to buy any - I changed my mind (yet got the credits in their error). They should suspend the site for now. Should be a windfall in our error. It's like a bank who knows a ATM is dishing out double would pull the plug on it - not say please don't spend all that money!! P.S I've removed my email, address and name from their site just in case! Hope they don't try the historical information(or store it). worth a try anyway. Jacquie

When they credited me 60 too many, I emailed them and they let me keep them anyway - see honesty does pay (sometimes)

Oh Dear!! Anyone who sniffs a freebie is going to pick up the scent!!!I must admit I had a look but couldn't work out how to get the free credit, otherwise I would have been guilty too!

Paul My thoughts exactly. If theres a problem with the site, then pull the site. You dont want to lose money over it. Well, I would if it was my site. One big cock up I reckon Margaret

It's a fault with their site, I don't know why they can put the blame with us.

I've just logged in and searched with my free credits no problem.

I've just got free credits too! I can't believe they don't know this is happening? Off to use them anyway! ;)
